Just about everyone loves Christmas. They look forward to all that is a part of Christmas, whether it is decorating their 6 foot artificial Christmas trees, cooking meals for their families, and finding gifts for those that they love…they love it all. However, over the years, it seems that we all have been believing some of the myths that are associated with Christmas. And these myths are definitely not true! So, this year, while you are decorating your 6 foot artificial Christmas trees, why not take a look and have an open discussion about these myths!
Debunking Christmas Myths
Did you know that Christmas is not the most important Christian holiday out there? You would think that it is, given all that we do at Christmas, ranging from finding the perfect theme for our 6 foot artificial Christmas trees and planning out meals. However, the most important Christian holiday is in fact Easter, since this is the day that Christians commemorate the resurrection of Jesus.
Do you ever sing Jingle Bells while you are decorating? If so, this is not really a Christmas song! This was actually written as a Thanksgiving song. Originally it was titled, “One Horse Open Sleigh” and was written about the annual sleigh races held around the Thanksgiving holiday in Medford, Massachusetts. Just think, if you are using bells from your tree, your inspiration may have been this song that was actually about Thanksgiving.
And did you know that the popular poem that we all probably have read at some point during our lives “Twas the Night Before Christmas” had no real author until someone could forward it years later. Of course, then it was not known if he really wrote this or not since it was claimed that the poem was being spoken about 15 years before he claimed it.
